Integrative Cancer Care
What Is Naturopathic & Integrative Cancer Care
At Nova Health, we believe in empowering patients through a holistic and evidence-informed approach to cancer care. As someone deeply committed to nurturing whole-person healing, I’d like to introduce you to naturopathic and integrative oncology and share how my work may support you on your health journey. Hi, I’m Dr. Payam Kiani, ND, a fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology.
What Is Naturopathic Cancer Care?
Naturopathic cancer care applies the art and science of naturopathic medicine to cancer treatment and survivorship. It is grounded in evidence-based natural therapies that aim to minimize treatment side effects, support recovery, and help prevent cancer recurrence. These thoughtfully chosen therapies complement—not replace—standard cancer treatments. We always ensure that our treatments don’t have negative interactions with conventional therapies such as chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
As the graphic shows, integrative oncology places the patient at the center of a collaborative care team—medical oncologists focus on tumour-targeted treatment, while naturopathic doctors offer supportive therapies that optimize quality of life and long-term health, and recurrence prevention.
The Growing Need for Integrative Oncology
Over the past two decades, up to 90% of people with cancer have chosen to integrate complementary therapies—like acupuncture, botanical medicine, nutrition, or mind-body techniques—into their care plans alongside standard therapies. This growing demand reflects a desire not only for better symptom management but also for more proactive, whole-body support during treatment and beyond. Sadly, many of these people don’t have experts to guide their choices.
My Role and How I Can Support You
